Plastic flowers
Plastic flowers were popular in western countries in 1960-70. Hong Kong was also once a large supplying center of plastic flowers. As most of the production process needed to be done by manpower, many woman workers brought materials from factories and made plastic flowers together with other family members at home. This kind of “family-factory” has been the collective memory of the grassroots at that time. Plastic flowers have been one of the signatures of old Hong Kong. It is not only because it was common among grassroots families, but also represents the spirits of hard-working and unremitting Hongkongers, which is known as “The Lion-Rock Spirit”.
